Our Story
Founded in 1902 by Reverend Edgar Helms in Boston, Massachusetts, Goodwill began as a mission to uplift the poor and immigrants by providing them with job training and employment opportunities. In 1957, J. C. Kennedy brought this noble cause to Lawton, Oklahoma, integrating it into the Goodwill International Network. Today, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Oklahoma & North Texas continues to embody the philosophy of 'a hand up, not a hand out,' dedicating nearly 85% of its revenues to vocational services for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages.
