Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) was established in 1977 during a time of crisis, marked by arson and economic decline. The organization emerged from the belief that tenants could unite to assert their legal rights, defend their homes, and preserve their vibrant neighborhood. GOLES embodies the hope that the fight for individual rights can evolve into a collective struggle for community security, safeguarding the diverse cultures and institutions that define the iconic Lower East Side.
