Our Story
Founded in September 1972, Golden Valley Health Centers began as a small Migrant Health Services program linked to Merced General Hospital. With a modest budget of less than $200,000 and a dedicated team of six, the organization has grown significantly over the decades. The first health services were offered during evening hours at the hospital, but soon after, the nonprofit was established, and the first health center was built on Childs Avenue in Merced, which remains the largest campus today.
Over the years, Golden Valley Health Centers has expanded its reach to serve over 145,000 patients annually across 45 clinical locations in Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Counties. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, GVHC has consistently provided high-quality primary care services to underserved populations. Under the leadership of CEO Tony Weber from 2014 to 2024, the organization made remarkable strides in improving healthcare access. Following his retirement, David Quackenbush took the helm, continuing the mission of ensuring everyone has access to comprehensive health care.
