Godparents for Tanzania began in 1995 when Dwayne Westermann, a Lutheran parish pastor from Roanoke, Virginia, visited Tanzania. This journey fostered a deep friendship with Pastor Yotham Baha and ignited a shared mission to combat poverty and hunger in the Kilimanjaro and Karatu regions. Witnessing the struggles of local communities, the organization was born out of a commitment to uplift young Tanzanians through education.
