About Global Snakebite Initiative

The Global Snakebite Initiative (GSI) was established in 2012 to tackle the neglected crisis of snakebite envenoming. Founded by experts, GSI focuses on reducing mortality and morbidity rates associated with snakebites, especially in low-resource settings. Through community engagement programs and training for frontline health workers, GSI is making a significant impact worldwide, including the establishment of the East Africa Snakebite Center of Excellence and educational initiatives in India.

Impact of GSI

GSI's advocacy has led to increased awareness of snakebite envenoming as a neglected tropical disease, resulting in its inclusion in the WHO's list. The organization has launched multiple projects aimed at training healthcare workers and improving access to antivenom, with a goal to reduce snakebite deaths and disabilities by half by 2030.
