Our Story

Global Leadership and Economic Development Inc began as a heartfelt mission to support pastors in Juarez, Mexico. Founded by Arlano Funderburk, who dedicated over forty years to Baptist Student Ministries, the organization emerged from a deep need for spiritual support amidst escalating violence in the region. As university ministries ceased operations in Mexico, many pastors felt abandoned. Arlano recognized their plight and initiated a ministry to provide training and encouragement to these dedicated leaders.

Expanding the Vision

Initially focused on training pastors, the ministry quickly evolved to address the needs of their spouses and strengthen marriages. In 2006, the first overnight retreat was held, allowing pastors and their partners to rejuvenate and focus on their spiritual and relational health. This initiative has since grown, offering two-night retreats in Juarez and expanding to other regions, including the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

Responding to Needs

In 2018, the organization took a significant step by assuming an existing 501c3 dedicated to leadership development across Latin America. This expansion allows for a broader reach, providing essential support to pastors and their families in various countries. Additionally, in response to Hurricane Harvey, retreats were organized for affected pastors in Texas, showcasing the organization's commitment to serving those in crisis.
