Global Growers Network
EIN: 46-2247454 · Decatur, GA
Our Story
In the spring of 2010, a group of families from Burundi, Rwanda, Congo, and Tanzania broke ground on a small plot of land in Decatur, Georgia. This group of resettled refugees sought to reclaim their agricultural heritage, fostering both physical and mental health in their new home. This plot, known as Umurima, meaning "farm" in Kirundi, inspired the formation of Global Growers Network (GGN). Today, GGN partners with diverse communities to cultivate fresh food for families and local markets, building a more equitable food system through cultural diversity and regenerative agriculture practices.
Impact
Global Growers Network is home to over 230 New American Growers representing 12 cultural groups from 9 countries. Since its inception, GGN has empowered hundreds of New American and low-wealth growers, overcoming barriers to access quality land and resources. The collective efforts have led to significant changes, including improved access to fresh food, economic self-sufficiency, and the sharing of cultural traditions, all while enhancing biodiversity and fostering community coalitions.
