Our Story

In 1984, a group of 30 families in Canada embarked on a transformative journey, selling their personal assets to create La Cite Ecologique: The Ecological City. Over the years, this initiative blossomed into a thriving community focused on organic gardening, alternative education, and sustainable living. In 2003, the vision expanded to the North Country region of New Hampshire, where 315 acres were acquired to establish La Cite Ecologique of NH Ecovillage. By 2007, the community had developed gardens and a private school, which remains central to their mission. In 2014, the Ecovillage Institute was founded, offering internships, classes, and workshops that promote a low-impact, high-quality lifestyle.

Impact

Ecovillages exemplify how the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved through organic farming, renewable energy, and community-driven climate solutions.
