Our Story
For nearly a century, the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center has been a beacon of hope and support for girls and their families in Berkshire County. Established in 1911 as the Young Women’s Home Association, the Brigham Center has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. From its humble beginnings with just 37 girls, it has grown into one of the largest social service organizations in the area, providing a wide range of programs and services.
In 1929, the Brigham Center opened Camp Witawentin, the first resident camp for girls, and later added Camp Stevenson, a day camp. With the support of General Electric, the current facility was established in 1958, complete with a swimming pool. Over the decades, the Center has adapted its offerings, introducing counseling, childcare, and athletic programs to empower adolescent girls.
