Our Story

Founded in 2016, Girls Write Nashville began as a community arts project with a $2,800 micro-grant. Co-founders Jen Starsinic and Georgia English were inspired to continue the program after the initial nine participants expressed their desire to return. Today, GWN serves over 300 students annually, providing more than 5,500 hours of free community-based music programs.

Impact

Girls Write Nashville has a profound impact on its participants. 100% of middle school girls in Title I schools who complete a season are accepted into their top-choice performing arts or academic magnet high school. English Language Learner students have found their voice through songwriting, expressing their thoughts and feelings in English for the first time.
