Our Story
Founded in 2000 in Brooklyn, New York, Girls for Gender Equity (GGE) began as a response to the urgent need for advocacy and support for girls and women facing violence and systemic inequalities. With a focus on centering the leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive youth, GGE has developed impactful programs like the Young Women’s Advisory Council and Sisters in Strength, fostering empowerment and community engagement.
Impact
GGE has made significant strides in raising awareness about critical issues such as sexual violence and educational inequities. Through initiatives like the School Girls Deserve campaign, GGE has successfully advocated for gender-inclusive policies, garnering support from local government and community partners.
