Transforming Lives Through Empowerment
Founded in 2006 by Denetria “Dee Dee” Moore, Girl Talk Inc. began as a vision to prevent young girls from facing the challenges she encountered during her adolescence. As a single mother who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Denetria understands the importance of mentorship and support. Girl Talk was born from her desire to inspire young women to embrace their self-worth and make positive choices for their futures.
What started as intimate gatherings in a living room has blossomed into a thriving nonprofit organization that serves over 300 girls in Knox County. The mission is clear: to provide a safe haven where girls can find hope, community, and guidance. With programs now reaching into local schools, Girl Talk aims to expand its impact beyond Knox County and into other cities and eventually internationally.
Making a Lasting Impact
Girl Talk empowers girls to become their best selves, significantly reducing the likelihood of teen pregnancy and promoting educational advancement. In the 2022-2023 program year, only 0.24% of participants became pregnant, a remarkable achievement compared to national averages. Furthermore, 100% of the graduating class is pursuing post-secondary education or training, showcasing the program's effectiveness in fostering academic success.
