Honoring Georgia's Military Heroes
In November 2012, Colonel (Ret) Paul Longgrear and his wife, Mrs. Longgrear, returned from a Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame ceremony in Arkansas. It was during this journey that the idea of establishing a similar Hall of Fame in Georgia was born. With a vision to honor the valor, achievement, and service of Georgia's military veterans, the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame (GMVHOF) was founded.
After months of prayer and planning, the GMVHOF officially launched in February 2013 with the support of six dedicated veterans who each contributed $1,000. The first induction ceremony took place in November 2013, honoring 18 remarkable Georgia military heroes. Since then, the GMVHOF has continued to grow, with a total of 173 veterans inducted by November 2023.
In 2016, the GMVHOF found a permanent home in the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building on the State Capitol grounds, thanks to the collaboration with the Georgia Department of Veterans Service. Each year, the induction ceremony is a momentous occasion, presided over by the Governor, where the framed photos and citations of the latest inductees are revealed.
