Our Story
In 2001, a coalition of farmers, citizens, and politicians in Carroll County, Georgia, recognized the urgent need to combat urban sprawl from the expanding Atlanta metropolis. This concern led to the formation of the Georgia Agricultural Land Trust in 2004, with support from the American Farmland Trust. Since becoming active in 2005, GALT has worked tirelessly with farmers across Georgia to voluntarily and permanently preserve their agricultural land, emphasizing the vital role of local agriculture in sustaining communities and the environment.
