Our Story
The Genealogical Society of New Jersey (GSNJ) was founded in 1921 by passionate genealogical scholars committed to preserving the rich family history of New Jersey. Initially known as "tombstone hounds," these pioneers organized tombstone hunts across the state, transcribing vital information from burial sites. Incorporated in 1924, GSNJ's mission has always been to discover, procure, preserve, and publish genealogical information related to New Jersey families. Over the decades, the Society has relied heavily on the dedication of volunteers, amassing a vast collection of manuscripts and research papers that serve as a crucial resource for genealogical research in the state.
