Our Story

The Gender and Radiation Impact Project (GRIP) was established to address the alarming findings that women are disproportionately affected by radiation exposure. This initiative emerged from critical analyses of reports from the National Academy of Sciences and the World Health Organization, particularly following the Fukushima disaster. GRIP is dedicated to educating the public, advocating for essential policy changes, and conducting research that emphasizes the gender-specific impacts of radiation exposure on women and children.

Our Impact

By forming strategic alliances with public health agencies, women’s groups, and medical professionals, GRIP effectively addresses the disproportionate impact of radiation on women and girls. Their advocacy efforts have significantly contributed to the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, highlighting the necessity for gender-sensitive regulations in radiation safety.
