Our Story

Founded by Sherri E Pegues in 1997, the Girls Basketball League (GBL) has been a pioneer in providing life-enriching experiences for inner-city youth in Los Angeles. As one of the first all-girls basketball leagues in the area, GBL focuses on instilling confidence, self-esteem, respect, good health, and sportsmanship in young girls. From a humble beginning with just 8 participants, GBL has grown to serve hundreds, offering mentoring, athletic activities, computer training, career planning, and college preparatory programs.
