Our Story
The Rochester Rainbow Union, originally founded as the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley in 1970, has transformed from a small activist group into a vital community institution. Established by University of Rochester students, the organization was created to provide a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ individuals during a time of significant discrimination. Over the decades, it has tirelessly advocated for civil rights, offered essential resources, and fostered community engagement.

With the establishment of the largest LGBTQIA+ library in New York State, the Rochester Rainbow Union provides over 11,000 resources that support education, advocacy, and community engagement.
