Gatekeepers was founded by Bill Gaertner, who, after serving an eight-year sentence, recognized the urgent need for organized reentry programs. While incarcerated, he developed the Business of Living model, which has since transformed the lives of hundreds of inmates in Washington County, Maryland. Since its launch in 2013, the program has expanded nationally, digitizing resources for over 4,000 inmates.
Gatekeepers has been instrumental in helping hundreds of individuals prepare their personal re-entry plans. Recognized by the State of Maryland as a leader in reentry services, the program is now accessible on tablets in prisons nationwide, assisting thousands in mapping out their paths to reintegration.
