Our Story

Garden Raised Bounty, known as GRuB, began in 1993 as the Kitchen Garden Project, inspired by Vietnam veteran Dan Barker. Richard and Maria Doss initiated this transformative journey by building free vegetable gardens for low-income families in southwestern Washington. In 2001, the Kitchen Garden Project evolved into GRuB, focusing on empowering individuals through food security.

Impact

Each year, GRuB engages approximately 1,500 residents in Thurston County, providing essential programming that fosters relationships around growing and cooking food. The organization primarily supports marginalized youth, low-income families, seniors facing hunger, tribal communities, and veterans.
