Our Story
Founded in 2004, the Garden Foundation of Rhode Island began its journey by supporting the University of Rhode Island’s Master Gardener Program. As the program evolved, the Foundation expanded its mission to encompass a broader range of nonprofit horticultural initiatives across Rhode Island and neighboring communities. Over the years, the Foundation has successfully secured grants and public donations, enabling it to provide essential support for various horticultural education programs.
One of the Foundation's most significant achievements is the establishment of a state-of-the-art greenhouse at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. This facility, valued at over $200,000, offers therapeutic gardening activities for residents, enhancing their well-being and connection to nature. The Foundation continues to dispense modest financial support to horticultural organizations, fostering sustainable gardening practices and environmental stewardship.
