Our Story
Founded in 1987, the Galveston Bay Foundation emerged from a coalition of diverse Bay users united by a common goal: to protect and preserve Galveston Bay. This pioneering organization was the first on the Gulf Coast to advocate for the Bay by bringing together recreational, commercial, and industrial interests. Early successes included redesigning the Wallisville project and reducing dredging in the Houston Ship Channel, ensuring the Bay's health for future generations.
Impact
Through dedicated efforts, the Galveston Bay Foundation has successfully conserved over 8,000 acres of vital land and engaged thousands of students in educational programs. Initiatives like community-based marsh grass plantings and oil spill response planning have significantly contributed to the Bay's ecosystem health.
