Our Story
In 1897, a group of eight visionary women founded the Thursday Study Club, aiming to create a reading room for the Gadsden community. Their efforts culminated in 1900 with the opening of a public reading room, which laid the foundation for the Gadsden Public Library. With a generous grant from the Carnegie Foundation in 1905, the library was established in a dedicated building, housing 456 volumes from the original reading room. Over the years, the library has transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, serving as a vital community hub for programs and events.
