Our Story

Founded in 1970 as the Fund for Justice, Chicago Appleseed began as the nonprofit arm of the Chicago Council of Lawyers. This initiative was born from a commitment to challenge the inadequacies of the legal system. In 1997, the Fund for Justice became affiliated with Appleseed in Washington D.C., joining a nationwide network dedicated to social justice. This partnership has empowered Chicago Appleseed to advocate for systemic change in the legal landscape.

Impact

Chicago Appleseed is a volunteer-led organization focused on creating fair, accessible, and anti-racist courts across Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois.
