Our Story

From the Garden to the Table (FGTT) is a community-based prevention program founded in 1996 by Jeffrey Smith. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to creating positive change in low-income communities, particularly communities of color, by addressing critical health issues such as asthma, heart disease, and diabetes. With a diverse team of experts in health education, cooking, and ecology, FGTT focuses on educating and providing access to healthy options, promoting sustainable living, and transforming unhealthy lifestyle patterns into life-sustaining habits.

Our Impact

FGTT has successfully implemented health and cooking classes for youth and families, designed mobile and onsite teaching kitchens, and provided innovative cooking systems to residents of Single Room Occupancy Hotels. These initiatives have positively impacted the health and lifestyle choices of participants, fostering a sustainable and healthy community environment.
