Friendship Community Center

Our Story

Founded over four decades ago, the Friendship Community Center serves as a vital gathering space that connects and enriches multigenerational and multicultural relationships in the Leelanau community. Originally a funeral home, this building has transformed into a community hub offering wellness, art, and educational opportunities. In 1988, it became Leelanau County’s first senior citizen center, initiated by a coalition of local women who raised funds to purchase and renovate the building for community use.

Impact

The Friendship Community Center has successfully provided a welcoming space for residents of all ages, fostering community engagement through various programs and events, including the flagship youth program, Leelanau Investing For Teens (LIFT).
