Our Story

Established in 1997, Friends of the Wildlife Corridor was founded by passionate citizens of the Lower Rio Grande Valley who recognized the urgent need to protect the region's native habitats. With increasing development pressures threatening these vital ecosystems, the organization focuses on creating and restoring wildlife corridors essential for the survival of both native and migratory species, including many that are federally endangered.

Our Impact

Friends of the Wildlife Corridor plays a pivotal role in supporting the Santa Ana and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges, which are home to over 530 bird species, 330 butterfly species, and 1,200 plant types. By connecting fragmented habitats, the organization aids in the conservation of endangered species like the ocelot and jaguarundi.

Why Donate?

The Lower Rio Grande Valley is rapidly urbanizing, with 95% of its native habitat already altered. Community support is crucial for the survival of these Refuges. Donations help purchase land for wildlife corridors, fund volunteer programs, and raise awareness about wildlife conservation.
