Our Story
Founded in 1962 by dedicated citizens, including Walter Farley and the Venice-Nokomis Woman’s Club, the Friends of the Venice Library was established to foster the growth and support of the Venice Public Library. After raising funds for its construction, the library opened its doors in 1965. In 2018, the Friends collaborated once again with Sarasota County and the City of Venice to build a new library, named after the generous Dr. William H. Jervey, Jr. Today, the Friends continue to advocate for and fundraise on behalf of the library, ensuring it remains a vital community resource.
