Our Story

Founded in 1981, Friends of the Urban Forest is dedicated to revitalizing San Francisco’s urban landscape. This grassroots organization emerged when community members rallied to plant trees after the city cut funding for urban forestry. Since that first planting event on California’s Arbor Day, nearly 60,000 trees have been planted, making up half of San Francisco's street trees.

Impact

With a commitment to environmental stewardship, Friends of the Urban Forest has transformed the city’s landscape, enhancing urban greening and community well-being.
