Our Story

The Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) was established in 2000 to promote the conservation and enjoyment of the Appomattox River. Emerging from a regional planning initiative, FOLAR has worked tirelessly to implement a comprehensive plan for recreation, conservation, and water quality protection along the river.

Impact

FOLAR has successfully established a network of parks and trails, enhancing public access and promoting environmental awareness. Significant grants, including a $1 million grant from The Cameron Foundation, have supported the development of the Appomattox River Trail and Park System.
