Our Story

The Friends of the Cumberland Trail is a dedicated group of volunteers working alongside the State of Tennessee to maintain and advocate for the Cumberland Trail. Established in 1998, this organization has tirelessly solicited public and private donations to support land acquisition along the 300-mile trail that spans 11 counties in Tennessee. The mission focuses on preserving the region's ecology, history, and folklore while promoting outdoor activities and community engagement.

Impact

In the past six years, the Friends of the Cumberland Trail has documented over 100,000 hours of volunteer labor, resulting in nearly 302 miles of the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail system. With 208.9 miles of trail completed, ongoing efforts continue to ensure the remaining sections are finished, showcasing a strong commitment to trail building and maintenance.
