About Friends of the Cultural Center Inc

Founded in May 1973, Friends of the Cultural Center Inc is dedicated to creating a vibrant performing arts community in Palm Springs and Palm Desert. The vision began with a group of local leaders who sought to enrich the lives of residents by making the performing arts accessible to all. After years of fundraising, the McCallum Theatre opened its doors in January 1988, featuring an all-star tribute to Bob Hope and performances by renowned artists like Van Cliburn and Sarah Brightman.

Impact of the McCallum Theatre

Over the years, the McCallum Theatre has served more than one million local schoolchildren, educators, and community members through its extensive education programs. This commitment to community enrichment has earned the theatre acclaim as one of the finest presenting theaters in the United States, consistently ranking among the top 50 theaters worldwide.

Why Donate?

While ticket sales contribute to the theatre's budget, they account for less than half of the annual funding needed to sustain its operations. Donations are crucial for continuing the mission of providing exceptional performing arts experiences and educational opportunities.
