Our Story

The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden was founded in 1989 by Eve Vigil, a visionary student at California Polytechnic State University. This initiative blossomed into the Friends of San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden, incorporated in 1991, with a mission to create a significant botanical garden showcasing Mediterranean climate plants. Nestled in El Chorro Regional Park, the garden serves as a hub for education, community interaction, and conservation of vital ecosystems.

Impact

Through nature education and community engagement, the garden promotes water conservation and ecosystem preservation while celebrating indigenous culture.
