Our Story

Founded in July 2000 by volunteer dog-walker Bill Hamilton and a dedicated group of volunteers, Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control was established to raise essential funds for programs that are not covered by the city budget. Competing with approximately 75 other municipal agencies for limited city revenues, the San Francisco Department of Animal Care & Control relies on Friends of SFACC to support critical initiatives. Starting with an initial gift of $5,000, this organization has grown significantly, continuing to raise funds to enhance the welfare of animals in the shelter.

Our Impact

Friends of SFACC provides vital funding for special medical treatments and procedures that shelter vets cannot offer. By supporting behavior and training programs and awarding grants to local animal rescue groups, the organization significantly improves the lives of animals in the shelter, increasing their chances of adoption.
