Our Story

In 2005, a compassionate group of citizens came together to enhance the medical care available for animals at Norfolk’s City Shelter. This initiative began with a modest $750 donation, igniting a movement that has since transformed into the Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center. Over the years, the organization has expanded its mission to include not only medical support but also adoption programs, spay/neuter initiatives, and community outreach. With a dedicated 14-member Board and a network of passionate volunteers, Friends has grown its annual operating budget to nearly $100,000, all aimed at benefiting the Norfolk Animal Care Center and the community.
