About Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum
Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum was established to preserve and enhance the beautiful 30-acre Laurelwood Arboretum in Wayne, New Jersey. Originally a commercial nursery, the property was transformed into a public park thanks to the vision of Dorothy and John Knippenberg. After John’s passing, Dorothy dedicated her efforts to maintaining the gardens, leading to the formation of a grassroots community group. In 2003, this group became a formal 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, taking on the responsibility of managing the arboretum’s horticultural legacy.
