Our Story

Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary, located in Northern Colorado, was inspired by the rescue of a horse named Lackota nearly 30 years ago. The co-founder recognized the potential in this horse, which others overlooked, and took it upon himself to save him from a grim fate. This act of compassion ignited a passion for animal rescue that has only grown over the years. Today, the sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses, donkeys, and other animals from the slaughter pipeline, ensuring that no animal is turned away as long as care can be provided.
