Our Story
Friends of KMMA-CAITHS is dedicated to supporting the Kenyan community-based organization CAITHS in their mission to uplift the poor and vulnerable people of Rusinga Island, Kenya. Through local solutions and expertise, CAITHS addresses critical issues in education, sanitation, and health. The flagship program, the Kathy & Mike McNulty Academy (KMMA), provides free education to orphaned children, clean water, health supplies, and environmental revitalization, all aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty in AIDS-affected Western Kenya.
The McNulty family's journey began with a heartfelt initiative to honor their parents' 50th wedding anniversary by establishing a primary school for orphans. With the help of Kieran McNulty, a scientist in Rusinga, the school opened in 2016, serving over 30 orphans. The community's gratitude led to the naming of the school after the McNulty family, and the impact of KMMA inspired the formal establishment of Friends of KMMA-CAITHS as a 501c3 organization.
