Our Story
Eastern Cemetery, nestled in the heart of the Highlands neighborhood, is a testament to Louisville's rich history. Established in the 1840s, it stands as one of the city's oldest cemeteries, originally owned by Fourth Street Methodist Church. Notably, it was among the first cemeteries to honor individuals of diverse races, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds. The Friends of Eastern Cemetery, a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has taken on the vital role of caretaker, working tirelessly to restore this historic site to its former glory and honor those interred within.
