Our Story
Founded in 2007, Friends of DBA emerged from a personal journey of hope and resilience. After their son Trevor was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) at just 18 months old, Jim and his partner sought to raise awareness and funds for this rare disease affecting infants and children. DBA patients struggle to produce red blood cells, often requiring steroid treatments and blood transfusions. With no cure available, the need for research and support is critical.
Trevor's health challenges began with alarming blood tests revealing a dangerously low red blood cell count. Despite being given a grim prognosis, the family’s determination led them to seek specialized care, ultimately resulting in a diagnosis and effective treatment plan. Today, Trevor continues to thrive, pursuing a career in graphic design while managing his condition.
