Our Story

Since 1969, the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home has been dedicated to preserving the legacy of Major Ridge, a prominent Cherokee leader. This historic site offers a unique glimpse into early 19th century Cherokee culture and the significant events leading to the Trail of Tears.

Impact

In 2023, preservation efforts began on the museum's interior, alongside the launch of the Jody Selman Chieftains Museum Lecture Series and the reopening of the Grizzard Center for Cherokee Studies, reaching over 500 local students.
