Our Story
Friends of Belle Isle Marsh is a grassroots organization formed in the 1980s to protect the salt marsh and surrounding uplands from toxic industrial use and development. Located in Boston, this organization has a rich history tied to local activism against environmental degradation, particularly in response to threats from Massport's expansion plans.
Our Impact
Through dedicated advocacy, Friends of Belle Isle Marsh has successfully protected one of the last remaining salt marshes in Boston, providing essential ecosystem services and habitat for over 271 species of birds, including several that are threatened or endangered.
