Our Story

Founded in 2002, Friends of Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge began with a passionate group of nature enthusiasts. This community has grown to hundreds of supporters dedicated to preserving the unique habitats of Central Texas' only National Wildlife Refuge. Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, the refuge is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife and a hub for conservation efforts.

Our Impact

Since 2015, the Friends of Balcones Canyonlands has added over 5,000 acres to the refuge, provided more than $100,000 in annual support, and engaged 831 children in free science field schools in Spring 2024. In 2023 alone, volunteers contributed 6,760 hours to conservation efforts.
