Our Story

The journey of Fresh Coast Alliance began in 2013, driven by a commitment to meet community-identified needs. Pastor Joe Whalen and a few dedicated individuals from his church laid the groundwork for this mission. A pivotal moment occurred when Joe met Nate Johnson, who had just been released from prison after serving 12.5 years. Their friendship blossomed into a partnership aimed at helping others facing similar challenges. In 2016, they established 70x7 Life Recovery Muskegon, focusing on aiding men returning from prison in finding jobs and support. By December 2018, Fresh Coast Alliance emerged, collaborating with over 30 agencies to provide holistic programming, coaching, and accredited sober housing.
