Our Story

In the early 1990s, Dr. Kim Bowen, an emergency room physician, witnessed the dire need for medical care while volunteering in Bosnia. Upon returning home, he encountered a neighbor struggling with chronic health issues due to lack of insurance. This experience ignited a passion in Dr. Bowen to help those in his community who were working yet unable to afford health insurance. In 1995, he founded the Parma Health Ministry, and later, upon recognizing similar needs in Medina County, he collaborated with Dr. John Surso and other community members to establish the Free Clinic of Medina County. After three years of planning and fundraising, the clinic opened its doors on January 8, 2004, to serve those in need.
