Our Story
In 2006, the City of Fraser embarked on a mission to create a barrier-free park for children and adults of all abilities. Initially led by the Recreation Department, the project faced setbacks during the Great Recession. Undeterred, dedicated volunteers formed Fraser First, committed to planning and fundraising to make McKinley Barrier-Free Park a reality. With the help of a grant writer, Fraser First secured a $300,000 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant, enabling the project to move forward. Since then, Fraser First has successfully applied for numerous grants, bringing together community resources to enhance the park.
