Our Story
Founded in March 2006 by Patrick and Leigh Esau, Foster Care Closet emerged from a heartfelt recognition of the urgent need for quality clothing in the foster care system. After welcoming numerous youth into their home, the founders discovered that most children arrived with only the clothes on their backs. This realization sparked the idea for Foster Care Closet, which began in their basement with simple donations from neighbors and community members.
Today, Foster Care Closet has evolved into a vital resource for youth entering foster care, providing not only new clothing but also personal hygiene products and comfort items. With two physical locations in Lincoln and Beatrice, as well as services like Foster Care Closet's Haven and the Mobile Closet, the organization ensures that youth in crisis can access the support they need, regardless of their circumstances.
