Fossil Free California

Our Story

Fossil Free California was inspired by 350.org's Go Fossil Free actions and began organizing in 2013 to promote fossil fuel divestment. Officially launched on Global Divestment Day, February 13, 2015, the organization focuses on the two largest US state pension funds—CalPERS and CalSTRS. Through education and advocacy, Fossil Free California works tirelessly to support legislative actions for a just transition to a low-carbon economy.

Impact

Mobilizing over 10,000 Californians, Fossil Free California has successfully influenced several cities to pass resolutions supporting fossil fuel divestment, promoting a sustainable economy.
