Forging Opportunities for Refugees in America
Founded in 2019 by Michael and Kathleen O’Connor, Forging Opportunities for Refugees in America (FORA) is dedicated to supporting refugee students, particularly those from the Rohingya community, in overcoming educational barriers. The organization began with a grassroots effort in Chicago, where the founders and their children provided tutoring in their homes. Over the years, FORA has expanded significantly, now serving over 100 students from 10 different countries.
Impacting Lives Through Education
FORA has provided more than 48,000 hours of tutoring annually, ensuring that refugee students receive the personalized attention they need to succeed in school. With 104 students currently receiving two hours of daily one-on-one tutoring, the organization has onboarded over 900 volunteers since March 2020, demonstrating a strong community commitment to education and support.
