Our Story

Founded by marine conservationist Rene Umberger, For The Fishes has been dedicated to protecting coral reef wildlife since 2010. With a focus on consumer education, scientific research, and advocacy, the organization aims to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable practices in marine environments.

Impact

For The Fishes has successfully led initiatives that resulted in stronger protections for coral reef wildlife in Hawaii, including the passage of wildlife protection initiatives in Maui County. The educational programs and the Tank Watch app, downloaded over 25,000 times, have significantly raised awareness about the impact of aquarium fish capture on coral reefs.
